How to Tell When Your Filter Is Done
When To Replace Your Filter
If you want the cleanest and most effective smoking experience possible, it is important to know when to replace your filter.
Moose Labs Filters are built to last through multiple sessions, but like any smoke filter, they need to be changed.
Not sure when it’s time for a new one?
Below, we will explain how long Moose Labs Filters usually last, what can shorten their lifespan, and the key signs that tell you it is time to swap in a fresh filter.
How Long Do Mooselabs Filters Last?
The lifespan of a filter really depends on how you use it - specifically, what you're smoking and how you're smoking it.
Different methods and styles give off different amounts of smoke and resin. If you're using a massive water pipe, for example, you'll fill your filter much more quickly than if you're just taking small hits from a standard hand pipe or vape. Based on our testing, we've come up with some rough guidelines to help you out:
-
Original MouthPeace filters: If you take massive rips, expect to change the filter every 4-7 hits. For smaller, casual hits, you can stretch it to about 10 hits.
-
Mini filters: These usually last between 3-7 standard-sized joints or 2-3 blunts. If used with a vape pen or pipe, they can last upwards of 30 hits.
-
Micro filters: These are durable enough for multiple sessions. However, for the best airflow and flavor, we recommend changing them frequently. Some users swap them out after 10 bowl rips, while others like to change them after every session to get the most out of their terps.
How will I know when to replace my Filter?
-
Color Change: This is the most apparent sign. As you smoke, your corn fiber filter or activated carbon filter will shift from white to brown. This change indicates it’s doing its job, trapping all the gunk that would otherwise end up in your lungs. When the filter becomes too dark or saturated, it’s time for a new one.
-
Increased Draw Resistance: Our filters are engineered to allow for near-natural airflow while sanitizing your smoke and removing some harsh contaminants like resin and tar. Eventually, that trapped resin builds up. Once you notice it feels harder to pull air through like a clogged straw, it’s time for a fresh one.
-
Diminished Flavor and Smoothness: Our filters should never interfere with your cannabis terpenes or taste. In fact, they usually enhance the flavor by trapping the harsh particles that mask it. However, if you start tasting something stale or acrid, the filter is saturated. Swap it out to get those smoother hits back.
Can I wash my dirty filters?
You might be wondering if you can clean your dirty smoking filters.
The short answer is no. These filters are designed to be used until they’re saturated, then discarded. The filter frame is made from recycled paper, which breaks down when wet. Plus, after heavy use, they collect residue that simply can’t be washed away. So, it’s best to keep your filters dry and use them a few times before moving on to a fresh one.
But don’t worry, the filter is the only thing you need to replace. Our silicone MouthPeace is reusable, dishwasher safe, and durable.
