Our Story

The problem...
Why are we all sharing the same glass?
It all started at the Denver Cannabis Cup in 2014, when the Moose Labs team noticed people sharing pipes freely, with no regard for basic hygiene. Glass to mouth, that was the light bulb.

The solution...
Evolve from the norm & break the mold.
The first MouthPeace was released for germ free smoking in 2015. After listening to what the public wanted and seeing what was needed, the Moose Labs team got to work and spent 16 months in R&D. The hard work and long smoke sessions paid off, and in July of 2019, the now infamous MouthPeace and Activated Carbon Filters were introduced to the world.

USE A MOUTHPEACE, YOUR LUNGS WILL THANK YOU

2013
In Auburn, Massachusetts, we hand-made the original “420 Stand” in our basement to hold a bowl upright so packing was steady and tables stayed clean. Resin casts and 3D-printed molds turned into our first sales at events like the Boston Freedom Rally, then local smoke shops. The company was called 420 Stands, founded by brothers Dan and Jay Rush.

2014
We shifted the stands to silicone for faster manufacturing, easier cleaning, and non-stick performance that smokers and dabbers loved. At the Denver Cannabis Cup we realized shared pipes = shared germs, and the MouthPeace idea was born. We designed and made the first prototype and tested it ourselves.

2015
We moved to Los Angeles for the industry community and sunshine, and officially became Moose Labs, named for our dog Moose and the air-conditioned room back in MA where we started called the “Chill Lab”. MouthPeace Originals first real launch was the 2015 Denver Cannabis Cup, where interest ran deep and we had to call in friends to help. Sales grew online, in stores, and at events around Southern California, with Moose Dog often hanging at our booth.

2016
Customer feedback led to the MouthPeace Slim, a compact version for bongs and rigs, and the MouthPeace Mini, a reversible MouthPeace designed for joints and smaller pipes.
Side note: we also played with “Dab Art” during the shatter craze.
2017
Design patents for the MouthPeace Original and Slim were issued, including D790,767 and D792,646, co-invented with Maria Testa.
We attended ArcView in Las Vegas and gained investor support, mentorship, and valuable connections.

2018
We ran our own bacteria study by swabbing shared glass at events. The headline finding was simple and shocking: the average bong had 49% more bacteria than a public toilet seat, and even with wipes available, only 5% of people cleaned a shared piece.

2019
We released a fully redesigned MouthPeace and a breakthrough Filter. The triple-layer Filter made from nonwoven fibers and activated carbon removes tar, resin, and other contaminants while preserving flavor and potency.

2020
During COVID, MouthPeace became an essential hygiene tool, even for roommates and couples who shared pieces. Thanks to early inventory and established supply channels, we were ready to meet demand.

2021
We launched a redesigned Mini, built to hold a Filter and optimized for pre-rolled cones on one side and blunts or vapes on the other.
Fast Company honored MouthPeace Mini with a World Changing Ideas honorable mention in the Health category.

2022
We introduced the Corn Fiber Filter for performance and sustainability with a more full-flavored hit.
We also cut plastic in our packaging by 64 percent by moving from clamshells to cardboard tubes.

2023
We redesigned the MouthPeace Mini to offer improved Filter retention and delivered a tighter, more secure seal.
We launched the MouthPeace Micro for smaller handpipes, bubblers, and compact rigs.
Moose Labs debuted on the Inc. 5000 at No. 675, our first time on the list.
2024
U.S. Patent No. 12,102,136 issued on October 1, protecting our universal filtering mouthpiece and removable Filter cartridge system.
